Martins Ferry High School Orientation 2018-2019


            Martins Ferry High School will be holding it’s orientation for the 2018-2019 school year on Tuesday, August 14th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. This orientation will be for all parents/students grades 9-12. Starting at 6:00 p.m. Principal Mamone will address incoming freshmen and their parents. Current members of the MFHS National Honor Society will be in attendance to conduct tours of the high school. From 6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. Mr. Mamone will be discussing the new state of Ohio graduation requirements for the class of 2018 and beyond. It is highly recommended that all parents (especially senior parents) attend this session. The final session of the evening will be conducted by Mr. Mike Florak from the Brightway Center. Mr. Florak’s seminar is titled “College Academic and Athletic Scholarship Education Program” and is geared towards any student-athlete grades 9-12 and their parents/guardians. We hope to see you all there and look forward to having a great school year. Go Riders!

Dear Students and Parents:

 Welcome to Martins Ferry High School and the 2018-2019 school year! The mission of Martins Ferry High School is to develop responsible and respectful young adults who are critical thinkers with 21st century knowledge and skills that will make them self-sufficient, productive members of society in a safe learning environment. I expect everyone in the MFHS community to treat each other with respect. Building positive, professional relationships is a skill our students will have upon graduating from Martins Ferry High School.

As our students enter their final years of schooling in the Martins Ferry City School District, they will have the full support of the faculty. Our teachers will challenge students academically to help them achieve at a high level. An experienced kitchen staff will prepare high-nutrition meals to fuel their bodies. The custodial staff will ensure that our students can function in a safe and clean environment. An administrative team has been assembled to optimize the functionality of the school, provide guidance and counseling when needed, and ensure that our students are well prepared as they move onto the next stage of their lives after high school.  

With course offerings from general education to college and tech prep, MFHS offers a variety of classes to pique your interest. We also offer extra-curricular programs that are some of the best in Belmont County. With options such as Drug-Free Club, Garden Club, Tech Club and Wilderness Club, I encourage you to find something you love and get involved.

I hope that your time at Martins Ferry High School is an experience beyond compare. I hope that you build friendships and create memories that will last a lifetime!

Senior Pics Ad     
College Road Trip

The Community Foundation has funded the College Road Trip Project for 2018!  All college-bound 9th-12th graders who have taken the ACT or register to take the ACT, and whose parents meet with Ms. Bliss are eligible to participate.  Trips are limited to 25 students.   For more information, please contact Stacey Bliss at or call the high school at 633-0684.  Spring trips are now being planned.  Don't miss this unique opportunity!

MFHS students visited 11 college campuses in 2017. The project, funded through a Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley Community Impact Grant and in-kind support from the MFCSD school board, served nearly 70 students and their parents.  College admission representatives guided students on tours.  Students visited dormitories and ate in campus dining halls.




MFHS will be administering the paper-based ACT test to all juniors on Tuesday, February 27.  This will be a regular school day for all students in the high school.  All high school students are to report to school at regular time, and all juniors will report to their testing rooms at approximately 7:30 a.m.  The test is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., and will end at approximately 12:00 p.m. Once the test is over, students will report to the cafeteria where a sack lunch will be available for purchase.  With parental permission (a note sent to school), all juniors who take the ACT on this day will be excused from their afternoon classes.  Please note that the district will not be providing early bus transportation on this day.  Juniors who stay at school will follow their regular school schedule after they have finished eating their lunch and will go home on the bus at 2:00 p.m.  Students should bring their own ACT-approved calculator for the test.  Access to see a list of approved calculators.

Seniors, if you have had a senior picture taken professionally, please ask your photographer to send a digital image and copyright permission to as soon as possible.  

If you have not had a senior picture taken, plan to have your picture taken at school on February 21, 2018.  

Senior pictures must be a head and shoulders portrait.  Selfies and cell phone photos are not acceptable.  Do not include full body images, pets, cars, family members or other props.  

We would like to include every Purple Rider senior in our yearbook!  

On October 18, at 7:30 A.M., Mr. Briggs will be at the high school library to take yearbook pictures. Everyone needs to get their picture taken. The pictures are also available for purchase.
